English as a Second Language [ESL]
General Information
The Warren Woods English As A Second Language (ESL) program teaches English language learners how to read, write, speak, and listen. Conversational skills are practiced, as well as basic computer instruction and citizenship. Students of all languages are welcome.
Classes are open to students who meet the following criteria:
- age 18 or older as of September 1, 2020,
- not currently enrolled in a K12 school, and
- resident of Macomb County
2021-22 SCHOOL YEAR REGISTRATION
Registration for ESL is now closed for the 2021-22 School Year.
Registration for Summer 2022 will open in June. Classes will begin in July.
2021-22 ESL Class Information
During the 2021-22 school year, classes will be provided with online only options until January. From February to June, class modalities offered will be determined by student demand. The schedule will depend on both student level and type of instruction.
CLASS SCHEDULE
School Year Classes begin September 13, 2021. Classes end June 7, 2022.
Morning (AM) classes are from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
Online - Monday and Wednesday (6 hrs/week)
In-person - Tuesday and Thursday (6 hrs/week)
LAST DAY TO REGISTER FOR AM CLASSES IS FEBRUARY 22ND WITH TEST ON FEBRUARY 23RD
Evening (PM) classes are from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Online only, Tuesday and Thursday (5 hrs/week plus 1 hour teacher office hours) REGISTRATION CLOSED FOR PM CLASSES
Online classes will be held using Zoom. Students will be provided all necessary links to the Zoom class upon completion of registration.
In-person classes meet at Warren Woods Adult & Community Education, 12900 Frazho Road, Warren, MI, 48089.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
To register, you will need:
- Passport, naturalization certificate, permanent resident card, or other birth certificate equivalent
- Driver license, state ID, or proof of residency in Macomb County
- $30 non-refundable registration fee for 2021-22 academic year

TESTING REQUIREMENT
All new students must take a CASAS placement test in both reading and listening before attending classes. Students will schedule their CASAS exam on Calendly upon completion and submission of the registration form. When you complete the registration form and submit it, you will be directed to the Calendly page where you can sign up for the CASAS test.
Students should allow 2 - 3 hours for an exam. Exams will mostly be offered in-person, but some limited online testing options are available.
