English as a Second Language [ESL]

General Information

The Warren Woods English As A Second Language (ESL) program teaches English language learners how to read, write, speak, and listen. Conversational skills are practiced, as well as basic computer instruction and citizenship. Students of all languages are welcome.

Classes are open to students who meet the following criteria:

  • age 18 or older as of September 1, 2020,
  • not currently enrolled in a K12 school, and
  • resident of Macomb County 

2020-21 Information

During the 2020-21 school year, classes will be provided with in-person ("face-to-face") or online options. The schedule will depend on both student level and type of instruction.


School Year Classes - September 14 or 15 - June 8
All classes will be held online until September 28. A detailed schedule will be provided upon registration completion.

Morning (AM) classes are from 9 AM to 12 PM.
Evening (PM) classes are from 6 PM to 9 PM.

Beginning/Intermediate - Face-to-Face - Tuesday and Thursday AM
Beginning/Intermediate - Online - Monday and Wednesday AM OR Tuesday and Thursday PM
Advanced - Face-to-Face - Monday and Wednesday AM
Advanced - Online - Tuesday and Thursday AM OR Tuesday and Thursday PM

In-person classes meet at Warren Woods Adult & Community Education, 12900 Frazho Road, Warren, MI, 48089.

Online classes will be held using Zoom.


To register, you will need:

  • Passport, naturalization certificate, permanent resident card, or other birth certificate equivalent
  • Driver license, state ID, or proof of residency in Macomb County
  • $30 non-refundable registration fee for 2020-21 academic year

All new students must take a CASAS placement test in both reading and listening before attending classes. Students will schedule their CASAS exam at the registration appointment.  Students should allow 2 - 2 1/2 hours for an exam. At this time, all exams will be completed online.
